3 Artists Using Artificial Intelligence in Their Works

Posted in

In recent years, the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) into contemporary art has introduced an innovative perspective, reshaping both the production process and the conceptual frameworks artists engage with. AI has unlocked a remarkable diversity of expression, providing new tools that allow artists to reimagine the boundaries of creativity. By leveraging increasingly advanced digital technologies and various algorithms, artists are forging deeper connections between art and technology. AI functions not only as a tool but also as an aesthetic medium, prompting new dialogues about the future of creative expression. In this article, we spotlight three contemporary artists who integrate AI into their artistic practice, all featured at Bilsart Shop.

Meltem Şahin, a digital artist and illustrator, stands out with her multidisciplinary approach. After graduating from Bilkent University’s Graphic Design department as the top student, Şahin received a Fulbright scholarship and completed her master’s degree at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in the USA. Her growing interest in digital technologies has shaped her artistic trajectory, as she now navigates diverse fields such as GIFs, kinetic sculptures, and mobile applications. Central to her work are explorations of societal themes like gender and body perceptions, which she deconstructs using digital tools. Şahin’s ability to intertwine technological media with personal and sociopolitical themes marks her as a leading figure in contemporary digital art.

Gürkan Maruf Mıhçı is an interdisciplinary artist and researcher whose practice spans interactive design, digital media, and critical theory. His work is deeply influenced by digital technologies, particularly AI, which he uses not only as a tool but also as a subject of critique. Mıhçı is known for employing glitch aesthetics and sound to explore the artistic potential of AI, creating works that encourage audiences to reconsider their relationship with technology. By combining both visual and auditory elements, Mıhçı’s practice offers a multisensory experience, inviting viewers to explore the intersections of art, technology, and society. His emphasis on AI challenges traditional concepts of creation, suggesting that technology itself can be both a creator and an object of artistic reflection.

Ceren Su Çelik is a contemporary artist who seamlessly integrates AI into her creative process. Working at the crossroads of digital and artificial intelligence technologies, she utilizes machine learning and algorithms to investigate how human creativity can collaborate with AI. Her work often focuses on the relationship between humans, nature, and technology, with AI functioning as an experimental tool to reframe traditional notions of art. In 2024, she received production support through Bilsart’s Open Call for Video Art Productions, further advancing her exploration of how audiences interact with artworks mediated by AI. By rethinking her creative processes, Çelik expands the possibilities for interaction between viewers and AI-generated art, fostering a new understanding of the collaborative potential between human and machine.
